Car key and lock trouble has a way of happening at the worst possible moment — in a parking lot, at work, or first thing in the morning when you're already running late. Ancient City Locksmith provides mobile automotive locksmith service across St. Augustine and Northeast Florida, coming to your vehicle for lockouts, replacement keys and key fob programming on supported makes and models.
Automotive locksmith work covers car lockouts, lost car keys, spare keys, transponder keys, remote-head keys, key fobs, proximity and push-to-start smart keys, broken key extraction, and certain ignition-related key problems. Because modern vehicle security varies so much between manufacturers and model years, we always begin with your vehicle's year, make and model before quoting or dispatching.
Car keys have changed dramatically. A basic mechanical key just turns a lock. A transponder key adds a chip that the car must recognize electronically before it will start. Remote-head keys combine the cut blade with the lock/unlock buttons. Proximity and push-to-start smart keys let you unlock and start without inserting anything — the car senses the fob nearby.
This matters because the type of key your vehicle uses determines whether it can be duplicated on the spot, whether it needs electronic programming, and whether the job can be done by a mobile locksmith or requires dealer-level equipment. We'll tell you honestly which category your vehicle falls into.
If you still have a working key, making a spare is usually straightforward. If you've lost every key — an 'all-keys-lost' situation — the job is more involved but still possible for many supported vehicles. It may require key-cutting information, vehicle-specific tools and electronic programming, and we'll ask for proof that you're authorized to have a key made for the vehicle.
Whenever you still have one working key, making a spare before you need it is far simpler and less stressful than dealing with all-keys-lost later.
A fob that stops working might be a dead battery, a fault in the fob, a programming issue, or a vehicle problem. For supported vehicles we can add a new fob, replace a lost one, and in some cases remove old keys from the vehicle's memory. Before buying a cheap fob online, check compatibility — two fobs can look identical but use different electronics, frequencies or part numbers. See our key fob programming page for details.
Most automotive work is done right where your vehicle is: a driveway, a parking lot, a workplace or the roadside. That means a car that can't be driven doesn't need a tow just to get a key made or a door opened. Give us the vehicle's location and details and we'll come prepared.
No locksmith can service every vehicle for every job. Some newer models and certain security procedures require dealer tools, and we'll say so rather than waste your time. Our goal is to solve what we can on-site and point you in the right direction when a job genuinely belongs at the dealer.
